About Us
Willie's Wood Finish was started several years ago when Will Courson wanted an all-natural finish that he could control what ingredients were used. After a couple of years of trial and error - he finally found the formula of Willie's Wood Finish.
The founder of Willie's Wood Finish is...Will. As a kid his nickname was Willie, hence the name of the finish. Born and raised in NWPA, Will and his wife Hannah have two beautiful children, a German Shepard, a Golden Retriever, and a cat named Kitty. Will and Hannah flew the coop right after getting married and moved to good ole' Nashville, Tennessee! After woodworking out of a shed and in the driveway for many years, when they bought their second home Will finally got his shop. It was there that this snapback wearing garage woodworker decided he wanted to get away from using toxic finishes with high VOCs and start using something more friendly for his lungs and his home.
What started out as many failed attempts eventually turned into closer iterations of what is now Willie's Wood Finish.
Fast forward to 2023 where Will and Hannah had an opportunity to move back home to NWPA. At that point the finish development was put on hold due to busyness of life. As they got settled into their new home in PA, Will decided to pick up where he left off. Going through several more blends of the finish he finally landed on what we now know as Willie's Wood Finish.
Even though Will had found what he thought was the perfect formula - he needed affirmation. Reaching out to several of his fellow woodworking buddies, Will started sending samples of the finish to them to try and test. His only requirement was that they be honest with him. Test it in every way and don't sugar coat how they feel. To Will's surprise - everyone loved it! His finish proved to not only beautify the wood, but give it a great layer of protection as well!
As he continued to send out samples to just about anyone who wanted to try it, he knew it was time to make things legit. He contacted his good buddy and co-host of Faith Talks Wood podcast, Tom Watkins about helping him design a label and logo. While Tom was working on that Will was hard at work creating a website and establishing an LLC.
To this day he still wears a snapback while hand brewing the finish right in his garage.
